Biblical and Reformed Theological Foundations
March 11th-14th
This course will explore biblical foundations, methods of interpretation and resources for scriptural study within the unique context of camp and conference ministry. Participants will be introduced to the basics of reformed theology, an overview of historical creeds, and how theology shapes the practice of ministry in our camp and conference centers. This course will be held at Columbia Theological Seminary (Decatur, GA)and will be taught by seminary faculty, Dr. William P. Brown and Dr. Martha Moore-Keish.
About the Instructors
William P. Brown
William P. Brown is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Professor of Old Testament Literature, Language, and Exegesis at Columbia Theological Seminary. Bill has also taught at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond and at Emory University. He is the author of several books and numerous essays on biblical interpretation and theology, including The Seven Pillars of Creation: The Bible, Science, and the Ecology of Wonder (Oxford University), Seeing the Psalms: A Theology of Metaphor (WJK), Ecclesiastes (WJK), as well as editor of Engaging Biblical Authority (WJK). Bill is an avid Sunday School teacher and a founding member of Earth Covenant Ministry, an emerging organization of Presbyterian churches in the Atlanta area dedicated to creation care. Gail and Bill have two daughters, Ella and Hannah.
Martha Moore-Keish
Martha Moore-Keish grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. She attended Harvard College and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia (now Union Presbyterian Seminary), where she met and married her husband Chris. She earned the Ph.D. in theology from Emory University, and then worked for three years in the Office of Theology and Worship of the Presbyterian Church (USA). During 2003-04 she taught liturgical studies at Yale Divinity School, before moving to Atlanta in summer 2004 to take the position as Assistant Professor of Theology at Columbia Theological Seminary. She has published two books: Do This in Remembrance of Me: A Ritual Approach to Reformed Eucharistic Theology (2008) and Christian Prayer for Today (2009). Martha and Chris have two daughters, Miriam and Fiona, three cats, and a flock of chickens.
Tuition, Lodging, Meals and Transportation
The tuition cost for this certification course is $225.00. You will have one of three different meal options: all meals (Sunday dinner through Wednesday Lunch) for $80.00; lunch and dinner only for $65.00; or no meals provided. Lodging at the Harrington Center on the seminary campus will be $96.72 for double occupancy or $157.29 for single occupancy. This includes three nights in private bath bedroom accommodations. We would like to have all of the participants arrive at the seminary by 5:00pm on Sunday. For those participants who will fly into the Atlanta International Airport (ATL), you can use the MARTA subway to get to Decatur. We will be providing a free shuttle to get folks from the Decatur MARTA station to the seminary campus. If you wish to take this shuttle, we ask that you fly into Atlanta no later than 3:30pm on Sunday. For your return trip, we ask that you schedule your departure flight no earlier than 3:30pm.

About the Instructors
Kathy Dawson
Kathy Dawson is currently serving on the faculty of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia as Associate Professor of Christian Education and Director of the Master of Arts and Practical Theology degree program. Kathy holds the B.A. in liberal studies and music from California State University, Long Beach. She earned the M.A. in Christian Education in 1992 from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education and is a certified Christian educator. In 1994 she received the M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary, and in 2002 was awarded the Ph.D. in practical theology with an emphasis on Christian education from Princeton Theological Seminary. Her interests run from brain research to puppets. She enjoys teaching and learning with all ages and in all spaces.
Joel Winchip
Joel Winchip is the Executive Director of the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association (PCCCA). He also serves on the Adjunct Faculty of Columbia Theological Seminary, where he teaches the Camp/Conference Program and Administration course each January. Joel attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, where he received an M.A. in Christian Education and an Ed.S. in Camp and Conference Ministry. He is also a certified church educator. Joel worked on the staff of 10 Presbyterian camps and conference centers in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. He has also served as an adjunct instructor at Presbyterian College and Union Presbyterian Seminary. Joel lives in York, SC with his wife, Tammy, and their three cats.
